NOTE:
This story was originally intended to comfort anyone
who finds themselves alone after a broken relationship, but after
the horrific events of September 11, 2001, I would like to
dedicate this story to all the friends and families of the victims
of the New York City and Washington D.C. terrorist attacks.
The Lord is with us during our sorrow.
"Waiting for Her"
She's sitting in the dark with only a distant light on,
staring off into nothing as if time and the world suddenly
stood still. The radio is softly unfolding a story about a
true love dissolving: "Where did I go wrong, where did
I miss the signs" he sings with a heartbreaking twang.
She finds herself narrating the story, anticipating every
word, understanding every emotion. She's thinking to
herself that she could have written that song, only she
would have put a little more feeling into it. The one person
she trusted, the one that was always there for her, her
strength in weakness, her supporter in strength, is no more.
She's trying to hold on, trying to be strong, but emptiness
could fill this room.
She doesn't even know it yet, but she will be reaching out
to you soon. She has a void that only you can fill, pieces
that only you can put back together. Please put your hand
on her shoulder and comfort and guide her. Please hold her
tightly, and support her in her need. Be the one that she can
trust, the one that will always be there. She fills her days the best she can, but reality
and emptiness
fills her heart in the stillness of home. Memories and visions
recreate themselves over and over in her head. Everything she
sees and hears reminds her of him. Everything comes flooding
back like a heartbreaking goodbye scene from her favorite
movie. He's not part of her life anymore, she can't fully
understand it, it hasn't fully sunk in yet. She tries to hold back
the pain, but the soul finds a weak spot and leaks some through.
Today was the longest day of her life, tomorrow might even be
longer. She's trying to hold on, trying to be strong, but emptiness
could fill this room. She doesn't even know it yet,
but she will be reaching out to you
soon; maybe with angry words, maybe with doubting words, but
with a heart that's wide open waiting for you to ease the pain.
Please put your hand on her shoulder and comfort and guide her.
Show her that you are true to your word, that your promises are
kept. She wants to move forward, but is still
standing still. Please show
her that when one door closes, another opens. Show her how to
place her feet firmly on solid ground. She doesn't even
know it yet, but Lord, she will be reaching out
to you soon. Tell her that you understand, that you feel everyone's
emotions and pain. Lord, please mend her broken heart and support
her in her time of need. She doesn't even know it yet, but
when she reaches out to you,
You will already be there waiting for her.

Isaiah 42:16
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths
I will guide them;
I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places
smooth. These are
the things I will do; I will not forsake them. Psalm
107:13,14
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their
distress. He brought
them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains. John
8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the
world. Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life". 2
Thessalonians 3:5
May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance.
