"I Heard You Knocking"

I was just finishing my breakfast,
when there was a knock at my front door.
Peeking through the window,
I saw that it was you Lord.
But you see, the house was a mess,
and the clutter was getting out of hand.
That's why I did not answer Lord,
I knew that you would understand.

As you noticed, the outside has been painted,
and I did major landscaping in the yard.
Hopefully you liked the new front steps,
I didn't realize building them would be so hard.
The outside looks almost perfect,
but the inside... a lot of work at hand.
That's another reason I didn't answer Lord,
I knew that you would understand.

I've heard that you are very good with remodeling,
that you can really make a place shine.
But I'm in the middle of some things,
maybe you can help some other time.
Someday I'll fix all the cracks in the walls
caused by the foundation shifting in the sand.
But please come back again Lord,
I know that you will understand.
