"Passing Through These Doorways"
This sturdy old house on the
crest of the hill,
stands the test of time and scrutiny.
A shelter from the world's wind and chill,
like a harbor during the storms of insecurity.
A strong foundation that's proven through the ages,
as families gather to give thanks and praise.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.
Windows for watching the growing years
of tag, swings, and baseball.
Mom makes smiles from scrapes and tears,
a winded Dad gives them his all.
Overstuffed chairs for turning pages,
sleepy little faces with eyes in a glaze.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.
Polished oak floors for kneeling by the bed,
nighttime prayers after daylight's long past.
Silhouettes in the doorway, smiling at what's said,
silently watching innocence growing up too fast.
Children entering adulthood
with talents of all ranges,
moving into the world with a blaze.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.
Walls that have long been disturbingly quiet,
once held crayon art and echoed rambunctious voices.
The memories are here and the roots were set,
now too much to maintain and facing difficult choices.
Sunlight streams past dingy lace that the breeze rearranges,
reflecting on photos of the children they had raised.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.
The eldest oversees the sale with emotions running long,
reminiscing and replaying events that lead to melancholy.
Generations learning what holds them tight and strong,
of values taught and caught to last into eternity.
I've been a good home through all the family
stages;
a place to grow and
share in each other's days.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.
This sturdy old house on the crest of the hill,
stands the test of time and scrutiny.
A shelter from the world's wind and chill,
like a harbor during the storms of insecurity.
A strong foundation that's proven through the ages,
as a new family gathers to give thanks and praise.
I have seen a lot of changes
passing through these doorways.

Proverbs 24:3,4
Through wisdom is a house
built; and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge
shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Luke 6:48
He is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the
foundation on a rock; and
when the flood arose, the stream beat against that house and could not
shake it: for it was
founded upon the rock.
