"Heart
of Gold"
An older, very
wealthy man wanted to take all of his
riches with him when he died. He had all of his wealth
invested in gold bars. One day he asked a pastor how
he could bring his precious gold into the next life.
The pastor told him it was impossible to do that. The
wealthy man wouldn't accept that answer and demanded
that there must be a way to accomplish the task. The
pastor thought and thought, and came up with an idea that
would work.
Not too many years later, the old man stood in front of
the pearly gates. He was full of pride knowing that he
was the first person to take his wealth with him. He
walked through the gates and saw Jesus standing there
waiting for him, so he confidently walked up to him
grinning. Jesus opened up the Book Of Life and thumbed
through it, flipping some pages back and forth with a sad
and disappointed look on his face. He looked up at the
man and asked what he had in the big heavy bag.
"I brought all of my gold bars with me!" the man answered
proudly. Jesus quietly leaned over and looked into the
bag. "Oh, paving bricks! You brought me some more
paving bricks. That's such a nice gesture, but our streets
don't need any more gold bricks. Thanks anyway!"
"Next."

Matthew 19:23
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard
for a rich man to enter the
kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go
through the eye of a
needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
Of the New Jerusalem where God and the Lamb will dwell among us:
Revelation
21:21, 27
The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl.
The great street
of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.
Nothing
impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or
deceitful,
but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
