"Why
is the Youth Group called the Bereans?"
They are called the Bereans because of the character
outline in Acts 17:11 - [Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received
the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true].
The youth are taught from this example. It's important to read God's word daily.
"What
is the primary focus with this
ministry?"
The kids in the group (along with the
teachers) grow in wisdom and faith concerning the issues that
challenge teenagers today. The primary focus for the youth group is to build a personal relationship with Jesus that lasts a lifetime, and to
build friendships with other Christian teens.
"How
are those relationships
built?"
The kids are equipped with the skills to learn more about Jesus, to talk
to him, and depend on him for everything. The youth
develop strong bonds with other Christian teens. The world can be a
hard place to live in,
and having the support of Christian peers is extremely important.
"What type of activities
are planned for the
Youth Group each month?"
There are several fun
events planned throughout the year. Some
of the activities are:
Bowling, movies, snow sledding, swimming, game nights, and
overnight lock-ins. The kids learn to be better community neighbors with service
activities like raking leaves for people in need, babysitting, snow
shoveling, and of course much, much more. They also learn to be better Christians
with Bible studies on Sunday morning and Wednesday evening.
Twice a month on Saturday, there is a youth night called 'JUMP'
when they do a variety of things like games, lessons, singing, or practice
music (there are kids who drum, sing, play or are learning to play other
instruments).
The kids not only have a great time being together, but
also model their faith as mentors while doing these activities.
They also look forward to two road trips each year. In the spring,
they will go to Atlanta Bible College's High
School Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia. In July they will travel to Indiana for
F.U.E.L., a National Youth Camp. Both are exciting times of learning, music,
sports, friends and fun. It's an awesome time to meet lots of other
Christian teens from all over the country and 'FUEL' up for the
rest of the year.
