Serious Humor #31:  Fancy Funeral

RETURN

-

Joe was known for being tight and stingy all his life, so when he died, it quickly
went around town that his will provided $30,000 for a very elaborate funeral.
As the last guests departed the service, his wife, Helen, turned to her oldest and
dearest friend.  "Well, I'm sure Joe would have been very pleased", she said.
"You told me about the $30,000 in the will", replied her friend Jody, who
lowered her voice and leaned in close.  "But how much did this really cost?"
"All of it, said Helen.  "Thirty thousand!"
"No!" Jody exclaimed.  "I mean, it was very nice... but $30,000?"
"The funeral was $6,500", Helen answered.  "The wake, food, and drinks were
another $1000.  The rest went for the memorial stone."
Jody quickly computed the totals.  "$22,500 for a memorial stone?  My gosh,
how big was it?!"
Helen held up her hand;  "Three and a half carats."

Application:

How you live your life and how you will be remembered is a decision that you
need to make now, not some day in the future.  If you wait too long, others will
make that decision for you.  What kind of legacy do you want to leave?  One of
generosity and caring, or one of being self-centered and stingy?
Either way, everyone will get their rewards; at your giving or at your expense.
